This is a declaration by the UN supporting worldwide DECRIMINALISATION of homosexuality

NOT supporting gay marriage

NOT forcing everyone to wear rainbows and have teh gay sex

This is a declaration to prevent gays being fined, imprisoned or executed for BEING GAY

OK? Because countries like, say, Iran have a nasty habit of executing us gay folk and most civilised people would rather they didn't ok?

In fact, to quote the statement:
"to take all the necessary measures, in particular legislative oradministrative, to ensure that sexual orientation or gender identitymay under no circumstances be the basis for criminal penalties, in particular executions, arrests or detention."

Wow, objectionable, isn't it?

SO WHY THE HELLS DID THE USA, ALONE OF ALL WESTERN NATIONS, NOT SIGN IT?!

Gah it's just... well, it's not like it's asking much is it? I mean if it were in favour of partnership rights or something i could see America opposing it in homophobic terror.

But just making homosexuality non-punishable? I mean, it's not like America would have to change anything! They've actually given up "look how evil Iran is" points for the sake of... what? Reminding gays that no matter how uppity American homosexuals get they're pining for the chance for a good ol' round up and executin'

There are still a lot of laws on the books in various states that make (or make sexual acts that are "supposedly" practiced via) homosexuality illegal.

It is ridiculous but true.

This on top of the crap going on in California (Starr) is just making my day.

*sigh*
