See? Prolific

For the record I'm not sure what happened to Kyernath and I'm not sure I like it. The alien deformed and monstrous creature is what I envisaged - not this. I'm not sure I like what it has become. I'm also pretty certain it's not only been done before, but it's been done so often to the point of being tiresome.

But, I also know I don't care because it is now WRITTEN and I can now IGNORE it. And yes, I know this is why i could never be a professional writer

I have been almost prolific last night in an attempt to actually become sleepy enough to sleep. Of course, this was rather foiled by how frustrating this was. I have written and rewritten it and in the end just SPLURGED it on the page in quite an unsanitary fashion. I need to proof read it, edit it, the tone is wrong and the pacing is shot all to hell. The verbiage is alsmot Dickensian in its tediousness.

But it is now written and it can stop giving me a migraine

DRABBLE!

Pointless little drabble fic. Why? Because I'm blocked and it annoys - and I find the best way to break writer's block is to write some fiction. ANYTHING. Not politics or reality or standard blogging. Once I write one thing I can start writing again.

I also need something upbeat. Yesterday was moving but not exactly fun. And it's Samhain and ever since my coven broke up it's always been a little more depressed than it should be for me

So, random writing that makes me smile a little - but hopefully will get things ticking over in my brain. And it's been hanging around in my brain for a while now, making me smile.

(Copywrite nod - White Wolf owns the universe, I just get to play in it)

Just a little drabble.

Originally this was the hawt sexing, in my head anyway. It just didn't work that way. One of the recurring tropes I hate in m/m fiction/slash and just about any genre with relationships is that when someone is depressed, upset or even outright traumatised, they have themselves some hot sexing and feel better.

I can see sex as a way to life out of a funk and maybe improve my mood - but if I'm really depressed and/or upset I'm not in the sexy mood. I also feel a little a little squicky by the non-upset partners a lot. I mean, if Richard came to me, upset, sad, confused and generally down I would think it's time for support, hugs, MAYBE cheering up (but I've ranted before about the idea of us having a DUTY to be happy). It's not a time to think "hey, he's feeling all sad and vulnerable now - time to get in his pants!" The times I've read this and felt that it's a little... predatory? Your partner's upset and vulnerable so it's time for sex?

Anyway, sexy time was called for cuddles instead :P I have more and I hope to post again today :)

*pokes* not happy (never am, am I?)

I hate conversation. I really do. You end up with pages and pages of words that just seem to go on and on and on. I've never been able to write conversation I've been happy to read.

I'll file it under "necessary step" and glare at it for a while

This just goes to show how scatter shot my mind is at the moment. I can't stay on any project for any length of time and I am plagued by spin-offs and stupid little drabbles and endless world builders

At the minute my brain is being kicked by Seers. Well, seers, augurs, oracles and a big lot of "and there's a difference between these guys?" huh. Because I know there IS a difference but I have no clue what that is.

I'm also going to have to make a cast list and hammer down some familial relationships. I've had Caoimhe running around and she's Darren's mother and Ieuan who's Darren's father and Sian is Darren's half sister but I'm not sure if she's Caoimhe's daughter or Ieuan's (I think Caoimhe. It has a rather delicious irony). And I need to nail down what powers everyone actually HAS. I think Prisa has managed to be an Oracle, Seer, Visionary, Telekenetic AND a Telepath which officially makes her the Most Supreme Camaalis EVAH or it means I screwed up somewhere.

*pokes cast list* ah hell. This is going to be even more huge than the Huge Arse World Timeline

Yeah, um, this is me totally NOT starting a new story because I have billions of unfinished one. And it would be stupid to start a new one, even if it is set in the same world setting. And this is me NOT creating new characters and this is me NOT letting the muses doing the driving.

This is just a one off random drabble. yes yes it is. For... uh... world building and stuff. Yes. See? They don't even have NAMES so it can't be a new story. Right?

Right?

I had to split this up because can I hell as keep it going. Every word had to be hammered out - which is annoying because I can feel the shape of it.

Anyway, the sidekicks find a friend and look for trouble - as they do

Words cannot describe how much this THING killed me. I hate hate hate it. I've re-written it 10 thousand times and I hate each version more than the last *kicks it*

But it's done and it's being posted so I don't have to look at it until I am drunk. So there :P

And to think, I used to like the fight scenes. It just seems... dry and boring and wordy which it really really shouldn't be. And there are too many adjectives. And it's too detached

Grrr, I need to re-write it

I've complained before that my Virtue of Steel world setting is annoying because for every page of actually fiction there are 100 pages of world building

This got somewhat worse because 'Adracanta' (that dragony thing that still needs a title) is set in the same world setting.

This because much much much MUCH worse because I realised that several little drabbles I have lying around, as well as several abortive works (y'know the sort - you get one page and then it all kinds of fizzles - more characters than story) are also set in the same world setting.

It's annoying because I love the world setting. I love the lands, their history, their politics, I love the races and their politics and history. I love the deities and cultures and timelines and the mechanics. I love this world setting, I can merrily spend hours and hours writing crap I will NEVER USE just so I can have a detailed history of a country on a continent NONE of my stories have ever been near.

But I hate the stories. I HATES them precious! And the characters amuse me slightly but nothing they do interests me. I have deleted pages and pages of drek that made my eyes bleed and I just CANNOT WRITE a story for this setting! But it's my favourite setting! Argle argle argle *pout*

So I keep on world building in the hope that something will click. And I had the bright idea to try and come up with a timeline so I know where everything fits. I haven't got actual dates or time between each but I have a rough order of when various events happened.

And it kinda went big... The setting has eaten my brain and the time line is not even a quarter complete *headache* so I'm going to have to edit it 1 squillion times to get everything on there. Which I'm kinda looking forward to... more world building... less story. Argle.

ETA: Oh bloody hell the tabbing as been merrily screwed up

Still pushing this around, though I have a fair bit on my plate atm. Still, I shall splurge it down and poke it when I have the time

More Drek! But I'm totally splurging at the moment. I need to keep writing or I will stop writing. So even if it's drek, it hits the page just to get in the habit of putting fingers to keyboard.

And probably a very bad spelling of anthropromorphism. Maybe if I spell it differently every time I will get it right some times.

Ok my stance:

1) Not all depictions of anthropromophic animals are linked to, involved with or in any way related to the furry community. This goes without saying. Assuming that they are is unwarrented.

2) There is a furry community and a furry identity. Some sections of this are concerned with sex. Some are not. There's diversity everywhere - but most things are misunderstood from the outside. We see things - especially different cultures, subcultures and communities - from the outside and may overemphasise a part of them misunderstand their complexity or internal diversity and generally make sweeping assumptions.

3) As to furry sex my opinion on that regards any and all sex. If all are consenting and capable of consenting then rock on and pass the whipped cream!

As to my dragony-folks:
The dragons CANNOT shapeshift except for Black Dragons (and that's more illusory than anything). The Earthmother and Skyfather created them to rule and guide the world and gave them a perfect shape for it - incognito (except for the Blacks) was never considered a part of this. Even if they could and even though they engender offspring with humans this is more through magic and ritual than hot sweaty nekkedness. Apart from anything else they are entirely different species - without magic they simply couldn't produce kids. Anyway, the dragons are the size of small planes - hot sexoring is just not thesable.

The Half-dragons can and do mate with humans - usually other members of the dragon houses - and do so in conventional fashion (nekked, sweaty, count-the-legs-and-divide-by-two fashion as Terry Pratchet would put it). Their children (quarter dragons, 1/8th dragons etc etc) gradually lose draconic characteristics with every passing generation.

In the beginning of the story, it has actually been several generations since a new Half-dragon has been born :)

Generic Appearance

Dragons

Generically Dragons are relatively similar to our European-myth dragons. 4 legs, 2 wings, reptilian, tail, long head, large teeth, no ears, large claws. Legs come straight down at the hop rather than being splayed like a crocodile. Front legs shorter than rear (but not massively so). The wings are large, ribbed - a lot larger than is usually depicted (a dragon’s wing span will be 4 times as long as its body when fully unfurled at very least)

Half-dragons

Half-dragons favour their human parentage strongly with only a few draconic characteristic, these fade through generations unless more dragon blood is added until oddly glinting skin or and oddly hued or shining eyes remain as clues to their ancestry. For a first generation half dragon the changes are very noticeable.
A half-dragon stands a minimum of 9 feet tall. Their skin usually carries some suggestion of their draconic heritage but that varies from dragon line to dragon line. They have extremely large wings growing from their back. I have a terrible judge of distance, but these wings will stretch WELL above their heads when folded. Outstretched they would probably have a 30 foot+ wingspan (which sounds ridiculously long but the more I try and work it out the more I come back with the same numbers - if anything 35ft would be pretty minimal). Half-dragons are capable of flight but any attempt at prolonged flight (more than say, 15 minutes or so) exhausts them. Half-dragons generally say it’s not worth the effort and they have 2 perfectly good legs. The wings are near direct (but smaller) replicas of their draconic parent’s (the skin is scaly, the colour different from their normal skin tone)
They have long talons on each finger ranging from 1-3 inches long and pronounced upper and lower canines (the rest of their teeth tend to be sharp and pointed).

This? Well, more drek - but it’s Spark in Darkness drek which I flung onto the page as soon as it was there because it meant it was MOVING again! PRAISE THE MUSES!

Still working on this. It's hard to get a balance between not being too repetitve but still preserving the sense of it being an ancient myth - a fireside tale for an elder to repeat. It needs to have the repetitive cadence and sense of oral tradition rather than a formal story and even a sense that it might be allegorical rather than literal. It needs to have an "in the beginning" feel and part of that, I think, is a sense of a repetitive theme - especially when you're talking about a recurring action - like the creation of each dragon line

But at the same time I don't want the reader to feel they can skip vast portions of it and not miss anything, which, before you could. So here's the next draft that I will poke later

The descendents who fled to the Skyfang mountains and set up their own little nation are more properly split into 3 groups. This is grossly symplistic and needs to be fleshed out a LOT and will be majorly overhauled
