The descendents who fled to the Skyfang mountains and set up their own little nation are more properly split into 3 groups. This is grossly symplistic and needs to be fleshed out a LOT and will be majorly overhauled

Adracanta
The dominant nation, ruled by the Dragon Houses, protected by their draconic allies. Easily 5 or 6 times the size of its 2 neighbours. Dragons are not exactly common Except in the mountains when they can be seen at a distance) but it is not unknown for dragons to pay courtesy calls of respect once every 5-10 years or so. They will come if called at times of need however and they will visit FAR more frequently if they have close kin in Adracanta (a child, grandchild, nephew, niece or lover) At the same time every members of the Dragon Houses are expected to make at least one trip to the mountains to pay hommage to the dragons. Very occasionally, one will be gone for some time and return heavily pregnant or with an egg - and another regular visitor :) In this way the draconic blood in the noble houses doesn’t water down.

Each noble house mentions the colour of the dragon that sired it. It is rare for houses to crossbreed (so Fred of House Shinysilveryness is unlikely to find a golden or green dragon mate. But he will still respect and pay homage to them, among the dragons it’s unofficially known that Shinysilveryness belongs to the silver dragons) as such, houses tend to reflect the colour of the dragon that sired them - golds tend to be noble, honourable kings, reds tend to be warriors, silvers scholarly etc.

The Angrekareni
Beyond the elven forest, the Angrekaren settled their own land with their servants and favoured followers. Sheltered from the coming orc Horde by the forest and the elves, they managed to grow and endure while Adracanta was torn by war. After the war was finished and Adracanta began to grow and prosper the Angrekaren looked to return and establish their dominance. They were foiled by the elves (who outright refused to be stuck between two warring human nations and made it clear they’d merrily massacre anyone who tried it), the Woodsmen (who basically agreed with the elves and thought the Angrekaren were bastards anyway) and the fact that the Dracantari had dragons and half dragons on their side who were Not Impressed by the much much weakened magic of the Angrekaren as well as a whole lot of people who were even Less Impressed by their hereditary rulers who scarpered when the orcs came.

A shaky peace fell. The Angrekaren acknowledged the dominance of the Dragon houses and declared their land to be part of greater Adracanta, albeit one with considerable self rule. They offered their magic, magical artefacts and lore to the greater kingdom in exchange for considerable trade and expertise coming back the other way (because the Angrekaren were quickly learning that elitest Priestkings and their chief sycophants make REALLY bad farmers, blacksmiths, weavers et al and this shit is REALLY hard to learn)

None Angrekaren people who live in their land are generally called the Angrekareni (largely due to ignorance of the Old Tongue). The Angrekaren are publicly content with their role though everyone and his dog knows they think they should be the rulers (again) and are waiting for the Dragon Houses to slip up

Of note is that, in the centuries that followed the founding of Adracanta, the Angrekaren are much more self-sufficient than they once were (but still heavily reliant on trade) and the peace has given them time to develop their magic again.

The Woodsmen
The Woodsmen fled to the elven forest during the Orc attack. Unlike the Angrekaren, they weren’t seeking sanctuary or passage formally - they were just running scared. The elves killed most of them.

Luckily for them, the Elves were very busy at the time - there were a lot of humans claiming sanctuary and all these filthy orcs about and these Angrekaren folks stomping all over the land are DAMAGING stuff and can they NOT use that Necromantic Dark magic please? So a lot of the more nature-respecting Woodsmen didn’t get killed immediately

When the war was over the Elves, for reasons of their own, chose not to annihilate the human squatters and worked with them setting up rules about what they can and cannot do, where they can and cannot go and how much the elves will totally kill every human in a 500 mile radius if they don’t do what they’re bloody told.

To this day The Woodsmen, lead by The Guide live in the elven forest. They work in close harmony of the elves and are deeply respectful of them. They trade heavily with both the Angrekaren and Adracanta and officially are under Dracantari rule (albeit, again, with a lot of self rule). Woodsmen do venture into both lands for various reasons but it’s rare for them to stay long. Only Woodsmen or those with a Woodsman guide are permitted to enter the forest by the elves and it is very very very VERY rare for an Elf to speak to or have any contact with a non-Woodsman.

The Elves
Are not happy. This land was perfect for them, the flows of power down from the mountains are impressive enough for even most of the lowest generation elves to be content. they were breeding and spreading in the extra -slow elven way and they were sufficiently out of the way to appease their xenophobia. They were one of the more isolated human kingdoms.

And then a load of humans turn up and this totally spoils the neighbourhood and further fucks things over because elven birth rate is based on population density and elves are recoiling away from the border zones which is squeezing them more together so there is less growth and this ANNOYS.

And then the humans bring a whole fuckton of ORCS with them that are even WORSE than humans and even WORSE than dwarfs for crying out loud. So then there’s lots of ORCS to fight and the neighbourhood is totally screwed now - then the humans ask if they can run away through their backgarden but there’s like, 10 squillion of the bastards and they’re completely ruining the herbaceous borders so the elves say NO but then they come anyway and clutter up the place so the elves let some through but they have to stay on the PATH damn it!

And more keep coming completely ruining the place then the buggers on the path actually start using earth tainting BLACK FREAKING MAGIC in THEIR GARDENS?! The neighbourhood now needs a superfund level of clean up now and there’s undead and tainted shit and the magic’s gone all funky - and GTFO already?! And take your damn burning, despoiling orcs with you?! What what what, MORE HUMANS are moving into the forest and they’re just LIVING there?! AAAARGH! Die, you’re all just going to DIE damn it - human, orc, we don’t bloody care! And who’s going to clean this shit up?

And then the Orcs were defeated and the elves could breath a sigh of relief because a couple of centuries of genocidal war are over and look at telling the rest of the humans to Get Off Our Lawn. Except they look at the humans and now they’ve got dragons. DRAGONS?! Where the hell did they come from? And they’re breeding with the humans? Do they not have standards? Dragons on the lawn is a really bad idea but not nearly so bad as ANGRY dragons on the lawn.

So the elves ponder again and let the Woodsmen live (the respectful ones anyway. The disrespectful ones are DEAD. Anyone else coming near the forest is dead. They mean it this time. And who is clearing up this mess?!) but lay down the law hard. Very hard. The first 2 leaders of the Woodsmen are killed for Doing it Wrong. The 3rd leader gets it right and is used as unofficial elven ambassador to the Kids on The Lawn with the Big Burny Lizards.

So Adracanta is saying everyone lives harmoniously together and isn’t life wonderful (and you guys better not try anything or we’ll EAT you, capice?)

The Angrekaren are saying that they respect an honour their draconic masters for saving them (and one day, ONE day it will all be ours! MUAHAHAHAHAHA!)

The Woodsmen are saying it is good the forest is respected and protected and we all enjoy our roles in sweet reason and harmony (and we know all this is going to bloooow up soooo soon so we’re ready to head to the hills. Oh and treat us with more respect damn it or we’re taking you to a lost grove and LEAVING you there for the elves).

The elves are saying their human neighbours are curious and we’re happy we could help so much in their time of trial (and when those dragons are gone we’re going to shoot you all in the FACE).

One big, happy family.
