Because nothing dispells the rage like a politician making an idiot of himself.
Chris Grayling, the Shadow Home Secretary (therefore, we would hope would have a clue what he was saying. Except if we did hope that we clearly have not been watching politics for very long) has decided to make a dual reach out to both the youth vote AND the law & order types by comparing life in British cities to the TV programme, "The Wire"
The Wire is apparently set in Baltimore, USA and is all about drugs and crime and violence and other sensantional naughty things.
His declaration will prove that a) he watches popular television (don't ask me, I've never watched the show) so is relevent (you want to be home secretary and a TV drama is one of your sources? Ye gods man) and b) lets the Tories play the whole "broken Britain" idea.
"Broken Britain" is an interesting campaign strategy. It basically revolves around how Labour has screwed up the country, breaking up families, increasing crime rates, increasing teen pregnancy, causing vast unemployment, destroying values etc etc. And how things would be much better with the Tories in charge. Of course, anyone with half a brain can compare how things are NOW to how thinsg were BEFORE Labour took over from the Tories - because, y'know, the Thatcherite era was just an utopia, right?
It actually amuses me no end that "Broken Britain" has improved in nearly every way over the VERY Broken Britain Labour were handed by the Tories. I'm no fan of Labour, no way, but I have to give them that. (Teen pregnancy, unemployment and crime rates are actually all LOWER than they were before Labour took over)
Anyway, there is one small problem. The press *gasp* is actually doing its JOB *double gasp!* How we will manage without prominant updates on how Peter Andre is recovering from his break up with Jordan I do not know.
And basically they're pointing out that he is speaking utter bullshit and that the crime - and certainly the murder - rates in our cities do not even grossly compare

I suppose if the press were not paying attention (a reasonable assumption, especially with the Lockerbie rigmorol) he may have got away with it. But if he was trying to pull a fast oen it just tells you the worth of the Tories doesn't it? They don't have policies so they have to lie?
If it wasn't a lie then that's just depressing. This man wants to be Home secretary. He should have better resources, better sources and a better brain than to say something this stupid
(Oh and added bonus for not being able to even asnwer basic questions about the TV programme he finds such an apt comparison to Britain's cities! Ye gods, so he's lying about watching it as well?)

I just dearly hope the mainstream news continues to shout this down and make it clear his is talking utter bullshit. The Tories are really starting to piss me off. You expect politicians to sell snake oil - but their lies and claims of being the complete OPPOSITE to what they are is beyond insulting
