There are rumours now that in the next patch (due imminently) shamans will be able to dual wield.

Remember how I was backing off the idea that shamans are god-like twinks?

I revoke my backing off and return to my previous position

I heard rumors to that effect... well-played Shamen are godlike... but how many well-played Shamen are there? I feel kind of bad for 60 Shamen my Nelf Druidess defeats, one on one... Her spec is 14 Balance, 37 Resto, 0 Feral. She's not supposed to defeat anyone one on one. It happens, and it's often close, but I've beaten up Shamen who were better geared than my Amy, simply because she could outlast them.

There's one Shaman on Stormrage (American) that people on other servers besides us love to hate. There's one very simple way to defeat him, though. If you /dance at him, he stops hitting you and dances back. ^^ Other than that, he is unbeatable. He can, quite handily, take on five people at once, and live. I wouldn't repeat it if I didn't actually see it happen. O_o

I'm good friends with him, even though he tortures Amy with Frostshock. He said he's only getting the dual-wield to have two Cookie's Tenderizers to scare the n00bs in Teldrassil. ^^ I wouldn't worry too much about it... their armor will go way down if they don't have a shield, and they'll be slightly squishier. And I love your rants about Shamen, Spark. :) You should hear my coworker's rants on them... :D

It is a class that needs skill but I still hate it muchly. There's just so many little things they don't need (walk on water? I guess Blizzard realised it was a messiah class)

The only thing i say that hurts shamans is that their mana just DOES NOT LAST.

And who cares about squishiness? I'm a mage! Armour means nothing to me *sulk*

/soothe, /hug.

Mages still hit hard. :) And agreed... there's that swirling maelstrom out in the middle of Azshara that's only accessible to the classes that can float and walk on water. :( I'd love to fish that thing, but my fishing isn't high enough (gotta love dueling the Messenger and he gives you water-walking when he uses his gnomish mind-control cap on you).

/offers a Priestly bubble for the squishy mage when he does AoE Death. :)

hmmm they are making fishing more pointful

Oh yes, I had a party that kept screaming AOE!!! at me. Screw that, the priest ignored everyone but the tank who bitched at me for getting agro. I AOE death (and as an Arcane mage I am GOOD at AOE death) ONLY when I think I will survive it. I'm not a kamikaze mage

:(

You need a few people to throw HoTs on you, a Priest bubble, and then spam heal when you do AoEs. I hate seeing Mages die. It makes me sad. :(

Sparky, darling. Join the LJ WoW Community. All the info you'll ever need.

Yes, Shamans will be dual-wielding in today's expansion. It'll require a talent expenditure (and they'll have to be at least level 40).

That said, every class has huge and awesome new talents.

Mages here, since I recall that's what you play: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent-bc=o - that talent calculator is based on the current Beta Realm Patch, and may not match exactly what will go live today, but it gives you a good general idea.

Full patch notes (not, disappointingly, including full talent changes) here: http://community.livejournal.com/worldofwarcraft/4612585.html?style=mine#cutid1

I shall have to look at the full patch notes.

Though I'm going to keep my alliance mage going I am really preparing for my Blood Elf mage (yes, I'm pimping my horde characters so they can get nice shinies for the Blood elf when he arrives).

Oooh, full talent tree. My choice? http://www.wowhead.com/?talent-bc=o
43/13/5. Arcane mages rock

But...but... I like using a shield with my shaman! I even have a nifty-looking red one with a cool white skull on it, that looks like hide stretched over sticks, which I am probably going to hang onto long past when it's actually useful because it looks that darn cool. I only bother dual-wielding with my rogues.

Sigh. I have a love-hate relationship with shamans whenever I play 'em, and it sounds like they're going to keep pushing it more towards hate. I just like the idea of someone who can hit hard and heal herself without being a paladin-tank. Is that so wrong?

I have a warrior and I'm split between 2-handed weapon and dual wield. IU think dual wield would be better for berserker (which is the stance I am usually in) but I don't actually LIKE berserker

My shaman likes shields as well - survivability lets me hit things longer and not rely on mana that runs out so quickly

Paladins BORE me, they take so long to kill stuff. I am just miffed that shamans are getting SO MANY cool options but they're actually destroying what a shaman is about - totems! They're like an afterthough

Yeah, my shamans barely use totems. (The taunting one doesn't work, the slowing one is kinda pointless, the explosion one almost always gets beat down too fast to work... Pretty much 'less damage' is all that seems worth the mana cost.) Part of that might be my play style--my hunters barely use traps, either--but it does not exactly work with the whole "core class concept" ideal for 'em.
