And this one from character creation

A new character joined the group (remind me to do a resume of the group's actions so far) but it was clear we were having problems.

S: Damn, I can't make this character.
Me: *ever helpful GM* Well, start at the concept - what is the concept?
S: Reality TV Show winner.
Me: errrr... ick?
S: I know. I have too many points to spend! This bloody system won't let me produce a talentless waste of skin!

Yes, the character creation system makes it hard to create talentless narks! Though it did give us the chance to have a character with crafts "Bushtucker challenges"

It was also decided that if he chose Clan Toreador or Clan Ventrue the rest of the clan in the city would just commit suicide out of pure shame.

I dunno, I think after a while you'd get used to/bored with their uselessness. It would be better if you had one character who had a clue to act as a reference of what normality really should be

it's sort of really hard to say, in total generalities. i've seen the band of misfits thing played really effectively--it mostly depends on how well they mesh and what kind of scenario is being run.

I dunno, if done well, and I think I'd prefer a band of misfits to a band of rabid powerplayers. misfits lend themselves to more plots because you don't have to up the ante so much to keep up.

And people tend to ROLEPLAY misfits more, I find. Becuase the character CLEARLY isn't about the gnarly powers.

One character as a misfit can work... but it becomes very easy to shunt him off as comic relief or have him eclipsed by the other players. You end up with someone who is always in shade and not often involved.
