Every year I try to think of something to say to mark this hugely important day. And every year I settle for the same message that is so important to hold dear. Because, to me, this day has always truly spoke of war. Not glory, not honour, not victory and success, though we have all of them - but of pain and loss and deep, abiding grief. This is Remembrance day because we cannot forget that

Some call this day Veterans day. I think I am glad that we don't over here.

We remember the veterans sacrifice. We honour them for what they did and we thnk them from the bottom of their hearts for what they did.

But even this vital part is secondary to the true point of the day. It was a point that hit me hardest not when I listened to the quiet, sad words of elderly relatives, nor the solemn hours in history lessons or watching the depressing scenes on television.

No, the point hit me when I went to Normandy and saw the fields of graves and to know that that vast sea of death was only a tiny fraction of the overall tally.

Today is remembrance day. Today is the day we remember what the world would rather forget. Today is the day we remember, because it must NEVER happen again.

There was a vigil yesterday in Trafalgar Square, Brighton, Liverpool and San Francisco against the homophobic hate that has cost far too many lives

I wasn't going to go due to distance and work, but on the spur of the moment I made the drive. I've very glad I did

It was beautiful, there were an incredible number there. And it was painfully, awfully sad. Incredibly emotional and powerful

I'm glad I went and I'm glad so many showed up for it. I'm glad so many came to say, without doubt, that the hate must stop.

Tonight there will be a candlelit vigil in Traflagar Square. There will also be vigils in Brighton and in San Francisco.

The vigil will be held against hate crimes against GBLT people.

Too many of us still die. Too much of our blood is still there.

I bitterly regret that I probably cannot be there tonight, only offer support, donation and spread the word

If you can go, don't go with loud voices and placards - go with a candle

If you cannot be there there's a donation link in the above link to pitch in. And regardless - there is a 2 minute silence tonight at 9:00pm to remember all of those who have died to the forces of hate.

I often read out endless screeds of homophobia and related badness. My RSS is filled with the various abuses that are thrown at GBLT people in a near constant stream. It gets quite depressing sometimes.

So I think it’s important to remember, we are winning. We are going forwards. GBLT rights ARE progressing, albeit slowly at times, but we are winning this. And it’s important to collate the victories as well.

Germany extends pension rights to gay civil partners (trying to address some of those inequalities between civil partnership and marriage)

Sweden allows gay couples to marry in church (The Church also as an open and non-celibate Lesbian Bishop)

America approves a hate crimes bill that protects GBLT people

86 year old world War 2 Veteran makes an extremely good speech for gay rights

The States of Jersey legalises Civil Partnerships
