I will write...
Jun. 29th, 2004 12:03 amI'm going to write something this week, I swear. Majorly bad amounts fo work just hit me - problem with pro bono stuff? You have to do it and not get paid! How wrong is that?
*chants*publicdutypublicdutypublicduty /chants
But it would be a hell of a lot easier to do my public bloody duty if the bloody public weren't a lot of bloody idiots!
And on that note: It is NOT in my job description to give advice to a bloody homophobe who is worried the police are going to drag him in for assault and ABH because he beat up a 'fucking fag' and I CERTAINLY don't have to advise him on his ridiculous attempt to claim bloody PROVOCATION because the guy was a 'screaming queen and asking for it'. It isn't, screw lawyer impartiality, legal extension of the client and the right to access to legal advice - there are limits.

Date: 2004-06-28 05:34 pm (UTC)Limits? I have precious few :) but this one's dancing on it. Currently I'm having internal conflict - there's my deep seated reverrence for the law and utter, fervent belief that everyone, no matter what they've done, who they are or anything else against my loathing for this person.
Thing is, I can do the professional thing. I can advise him - his defence is stupid, but I could tell him some nice mitigation and stuff... I can draw the personal/professional line, but I really don't want to.
Getting excused is difficult - we're expected to be able to draw that line, though it might be possible in this case, but because this is pro bono, it's easier. Easiest way is to have him drop me - which he can do at any time and will if I let my sexuality slip.
Not the best choice, but better than me stalking and killing him. Kinda.
