Hmmm... sounds like it won't happen...

But considering how stretched things are, maybe.

However, I'm not sure if this will work, but there might be a much easier way of beating the draft than shooting yourself in the foot...

Don't ask don't tell! Homosexuals not allowed to be soldiers after all.

Beat the draft! Make out with someone of the same gender in the recruitment office!

There have been rumors of a new draft for months now. Some (if not all, and I don't know if this one does) involve changing it so it applies to both women and men, and you can't use college as a way to get out of it. And? Can't go to Canada, because of a new law that I don't remember the specifics of.

My response to the idea? Don't you fucking dare.
Ahem.

But I like your way of getting out of it. Don't ask don't tell generally pisses me off, but it's a nice loophole in a case like this.

"Can't go to Canada, because of a new law that I don't remember the specifics of."

Can come here - we've granted asylum to people who are being drafted when they're conscientious objectors.

The main thing is what a lot of people have been saying, between Afghanistan, Iraq and a dozen other places around the world the US military is overstretched. In fact, TECHNICALLY, for it to remain at full fighting strength (which generally involves having at least half of your army undeployed at any one time and your reserves rarely called out) the US army probably needs to be about twice as large.

As for don't you dare - AMEN! Because you can just bet it won't be his daughters in the firing line, can't you?
For all the rhetoric about being tough, if Iran or North Korea or anywhere else threatened the US, the US would be very hard pushed to launch another invasion - certainly nto without international aid which is not going to be freely and easily given. Fingers in too many pies, and if there's a scalding one heading for the face there's not much that can be done about it.

One of the main reasons many foi us were against this war is simply because the resourcers need to be spent on finding al Quaida - not in putting the US in a position where it is abandonned by the foreign community and her resources are too stretched to go it alone.

Don't ask don't tell generally pisses me off

Me too, it's actually be amusing to see how quickly they rescind that rule. But then again, since when has Bush let practicalities overwhelm his 'ideals'?
