Further to this post http://sparkindarkness.livejournal.com/239664.html in which David Cameron would love to get the gay vote - and would we all be nice and forget that he likes to hit us with clubs on EVERY opportunity (hey, not even MOST opportunities - but EVERY last one!) I have a further double whammy of fun.

The first is that the Tory MEPS will be leaving their mainstream, centre-right voting bloc to join the ECR (European Conservative and Reformist) whose major ally and (thanks to Tory MEP Edward McMillan-Scott's naughty defiance because even HE is more than a little perturbed about the Tory's new bedfellows) now leader will be the Polish PiS (Law and Justice) party.

That would be the party that bans homosexual marches for being sexually obscene.

Yeah, David, I'm feeling the love here. It'll be a cold day in hell before I ever vote for your bigoted arse.

And I got a reply to my furious email to the Tories about their slimy grasp for the gay vote. It contained NOT ONE POLICY and not ONE EXAMPLE of a pro-gay vote they supported. No surprises since there wasn't one. I actually wrote back twice asking for ANY example they could give of anything other than a rabidly homophobic stance. They couldn't.

They said they have gay MPs (we have gay friends!) I say of course, after all, MPs are paid way more than 60 pieces of silver. It also mentioned that they had appointed a muslim woman as an MP and enumerated how many women Tory MPs there were. I am... somewhat bemused as to how this is relevent. Tell me again how the presence of muslims or women in your party in ANY WAY indicates a lack of homophobia?

But I think the icing on the cake was this:

Looking back, there’s no doubt that Tony Blair’s Government made major advances in terms of legislating for gay equality… …lifting the ban on gays in the military… …equalizing the age of consent… …and of course the Civil Partnerships Act.

These were big changes – and they were the right thing for our society.

But it’s not just legislation we need. The gay community also want to see cultural change.

They want to stop the snide comments they get in the pub… …the slurs that follow them around at the workplace… . the sniping in the press.

Legislation won’t stop this.

We need to change people’s attitudes.

Changing our culture, changing people’s attitudes; these are some of the great challenges for public policy today. There is no easy way of doing it – but it’s those who shape our culture who have got to take responsibility… …convey the right message and set the right signals. That starts with government."

I had to leave the computer and scream. I have rarely been so angry. How dare they. How dare they list the massive legislation battles Labour won - FIGHTING TOOTH AND NAIL against Tory opposition - and say it's not enough. Yes, it wasn't enough but how dare THEY say that.

Cultural change? You're the CONSERVATIVES. Change is ANATHEMA to you! The sniping in the press? Is that from the Guardian and the Independent? No, it's from the Telegraph and the Mail! How dare they, how DARE THEY say we need to convey the right message and the right signals when it's THEM sending the messages of poison and hate?!

It's taken a me a while to write this because it's impossible for me to be coherent. Gods it enrages me. The utter gall.
