Interesting, more and more Iranian clerics - even powerful, traditional and influential ones - ones that are describes as being “old school revolutionaries” are speaking out against Khamenei and Ahmadinejad.

Whether or not the election was corrupt, this is a great sign - unrest or at least lack of consensus at that level is powerful and can be extremely helpful not just in undermining both but in forcing both to be less autocratic and make more concessions and at least a show of consultation. Sure, most of it may just be the old grudges coming from Rafsanjani, but it’s looking promising.

Of course, from Khamenei and Ahmadinejad’s pov it’s not ideal and certainly takes some of the wind out of their sails. They’ve been trying to blame foreign powers, but it’s all being rather civilised and diplomatic - not really enough to inflame rage. What they really need is a threat - overt or veiled from dangerous foreign powers and hated enemies to threaten them militarily - then they can galvanise their base and paint the dissenters as unpatriotic, traitors etc.

Joe Bide: The US will not stand in the way of Israel bombing Iranian nuclear facilities

Ah. Yeah, that’ll do it.
