My parents go on holiday tomorrow morning - hella early. (BTW that leaves me to deal with my work, my crazies, my other commitments, my brother, his creditors AND Alzheimers grandmother all alone since the social services buggered up and respite care will be delayed. Expect words this coming week).

And they wake up to find out one of the big travel firms has collapsed (again) and that everyone needs to check with their holiday provider to see if they're actually going to be able to go anywhere.

Oh the stress. Not what was needed. Especially since Dad, the obsessively meticulous planner, tends to panic obscenely at any indication that his plans are disrupted. Disruption on this scale? Well, that would normally prompt him running round and round in circles waving his hands in the air and whimpering. (Similar to when my brother burned his house down, he was doing to equivalent of running around yelling "fire fire fire fire fire fire" WEEKS after the ashes have cooled).

*exhausted yawn* so I have come off night shift to be woken early and spent the last 3 hours trying to track down someone in the holiday place who will actually talk to me. Thankfully they finally got through and they're going to have their holiday as normal. Now I'm going to sit in a corner and grow grey hairs

ETA: Did I ever mention how much I hated being the "capable one" in the family?

Oh, poor Sparky. This is turning out to be a hell of a year for your family.

They should consider themselves very lucky they *do* have you to help them through all this. Hope you caught up on your sleep.

I think Sparky does court work as the duty solicitor - so when crims and naughty people yell for a lawyer in the middle of the night he comes along and smacks them with a haddock gently explains how screwed they are.

Yup, it's something our firm champions as well as we have a high crime area (low level crime) and lots of late night problems and lots of history of the police saying "we don't have a solicitor available" So our firm has got just about every qualified criminal lawyer ready to come out at any time

Someone has to sit in on the police interviews and say "the client has no comment" "If you keep on like this I will have to end the interview" or "For fucks sake, my client is stoned out of his head, you got me out of bed for this, you bastard?"

The police have a nasty little trick. They will say to a suspect "you can have an interview now, but there are no solicitors available at this time of night so you can have an interview without one. OR we keep you in the cells overnight until a solicitor is ready." And the suspect, being a silly silly sausage, will usually agree to the interview sans solicitor so he can get home early. And get screwed.

So our firm will send out a solicitor at any time of the day or night. And we've never forgiven the senior partners for promising that

What do they do when you go on vacation?

Or is that hysterical laughter I hear at the combination of the words "you" and "vacation" in the same sentence?

They put life on hold. Seriously. Everything gets rammed into the "wait until Sparky gets back" pile.

This is [livejournal.com profile] tanarill, posting in sekrit because I am at work.

I have this to say:

Universe! [slaps universe with a Haddock] Quit picking on Sparky! Srsly, stop it. Go find someone else to pick on. Like, Iunno, those people in China making obscene amounts of money by diverting emergency aid! Them! Not. Sparky!

Also, yes, I do. And it sucks.

over in Orlando, we're dealing with one plane load of that failed agency. The plane was actually taxing out when two police cars came racing up and forced it back to the gate.

now the brits are stuck here, with no way to get home. Needless to say, they are NOT happy campers.

beloved owes you some major MAJOR massages and other good stuff!

I can only imagine the horror. Being stuck in a foreign country and no idea of how/when you can get home. And this is the second carrier in a short while to do it.

Oh so definitely agreed
