You know what the MAIN problem is writing homo-erotic third person slash?

You can't use pro-nouns! The words "he" or "his" can mean any of 2(+) people! And if you can't just keep writing their names, and physical descriptions get old very fast. At least hetero slash you can use "he" and she" (unless there are lots of people playing of course).

hear, hear. pain in the ass, ain't it? writing s&f all the time is really cluing me in to the few advantages there are to 1st person. once i can get past the stupid verb tenses, anyway.

verb tenses are pains, and you can't slip to another mind easily, but you can actually DESCRIBE thought in first person too, which always hits me as rather weird with the third person. "he thought" what? how do you know what he's thinking, narrator?

yeah. see, third person is really kinda a misnomer. 'cause you're still supposed to pick a single pov to write from. like the narrator is looking over the other guy's shoulder. and i guess you could choose to be privy to his thoughts, or you can be a little more distant and just observe. or you can do the chapter thing and switch povs...but all in all, i think it can get really out of hand confusing really fast. first person is really starting to grow on me in a lot cases. i'll probably be doing my nano in first, just 'cause it's starting to feel natural.

I like third when writing most things - normal fic. But if I intend to put in any intense emoptions or feelings, I want first, it just works better. Quite aside from anything else, it feels almost voyeuristic to use third.

But the third can describe thiongs thew characters haven't seen/haven't realised. Advantages to both.

Of course I will NEVER write in the second again. That is just a nightmare.

yup. it's also great when you have a specific mood in mind, and you know that the char you're using for it is probably thinking something that isn't going to lend itself to it.
