Ok, dear gods of nature and chaos we can do WITHOUT this please. The British Isles do not have earthquakes. Stop, playing silly buggers and leave us our stable ground

*feels more than a little weirded out*

Apparently the BBC has received no reports from Yorkshire yet. I presume this is because most good Yorkshiremen tutted irritably under their breath and went back to bed (or parsing through the internet like an insomniac computer addict *ahem*)

I found the item on the beeb here:

They're not unheard of, but no, England isn't exactly known for the buggers.

LOL, I reached the same link at the same time.

Not entirely unheard of but the first I've felt. I'd rather not have a repeat tbh

wow, 4.7--5. that's actually quite a respectable shaking. maybe the isles want to pay us a visit over here? we'll see you in the next few billion years. i'll set a place for you and beloved at the table. *solemn*

They're now talking 5.5

Actually I was terrified, not because of an Earthquake, but because there's a large chemical factory not toooooo (well, rather a lot of miles away, but still) far from us and my first thought was "It's gone up..." which is scary because the explosion would only be the beginning of the problems

Sounds like a plan but the Atlantic is getting bigger and pacific smaller I think - how about we agree to meet round India somewhere - you bring the pizza I've totally got the booze?

yikes, yeah, exploding factory would be a LOT worse than quake. i'm notorious for sleeping thru quakes. the only time i woke up and thought "wow, i think that was a tremor!" it turned out to be the mob blowing up a local corner grocery. =\

ooh, i hear india is lovely. it's a deal.

That's actually stronger than anything I've ever been through - I think the last one here was 4.7 and that was a few years ago.

You could take pictures of the damage and have some fun with them. This was posted on Fark the last time California shook:

Yes, that was the worst of the damage. The picture was from an AP photo that all of the news sites had to run. Not exactly a big news day as I recall. I hope there was nothing worse where you are.

LOL, I like it. We just had to pick a few things off shelves and rehang pictures (we don't think to make something earthquake proof)

Nah, they're hiding behind us now :)

Apparantly in very rare occasions we have all kinds of freaky things - tornados, quakes etc. But they're nearly unheard of

Apparently Yuma's not the only place rock'n and roll'n....LOL! Glad you are fine and from the sounds of the article, it didn't do major damage or anything. From what's been happening here in the last few weeks, don't be surprised if there are a few more in the next week or so. I think we're up to around half a dozen or so shakes out here in the past couple of weeks.

There's a fault line that runs across britain round about the border. It's not an edge to any of the major tectonic plates though, so isn't particularly active. While there might be occasional quakes, none are really too serious

Oh, come now. It's just a little rock n roll of Mother Nature!
I lived through stuff like that all my years in Cali and it's nothing. ;)
As far as it goes, they have tremors going on all day, most are no larger than a point something on the scale, but man, I've been through a few I could have done without. Like the one that hit about 3 miles from my house when I was married to that evil meany my um, which ex was he? hehehe.
That one hit at 7:40am and I was cutting ham for my sandwich for lunch. I still have the scar on my finger where the knife bit me when it hit. ouch. :(

See mother nature tried to get rid of the evil meany! She's a wise old woman

I'm sitting up on the Canadian Shield, which is basically a big ol hunk of bedrock in the middle of the continent... but there are faults around this valley and we get earthquakes occasionally.

I've only noticed two, the first one I thought one of the snow plows had run right into my house. I was on WoW at the time so I hopped on general chat looking for a Californian to help me diagnose if I'd just been in an earthquake or what.

2 minutes later my mom calls me asking if I heard anything, because she was worried it was an airplane crashing (she lives under the approach path to the local airport).

Dramatic, and it shook the dishes on my desk, but nothing else.

See we're supposed to be that stable.

I was on WoW too (gods how pathetic is that) and I decided it was a quake when a lot of other English people said "what was THAT?"

good old w0w =D how's the druid going? Our druid healer got himself some new T4 shoulders off High King Maulgar tonight (we had to pug a few people to make up the numbers but we downed him on the last attempt before it was called a night; our GM joked we should start every raid with "right, this is the last attempt before we call it...") so he was pretty pleased with himself.

I main tank gruul every week - I have those shoulders :), but not the legs yet (damn Gruul ain't showing us druids any love).

I find Maulgar an easy fight IF everyone knows what they're doing, IF you have the right people and IF the pull goes well. In all the wipes we've had on Maulgar, 80% have been because the pull has screwed up, 15% because the warlocks let the Fellhounds play with the healers and only 5% random screw ups/craziness. Most memorable:

Mage: He resisted spellsteal 5 freaking times?!"

*4 Ogres all charge me*
Feral Druid: Mummmy! *SQUISH*
(Turns out 4 hunters had ALL misdirected their targets to me in a slight communication glitch)

Holy Paladin: WHY AM I MISDIRECTED???? *SQUISH* (yes the hunters got a slapping that night)

And best of all:
Holy Paladin: SHIT! I Bopped the tank!!!

But if you get the pull right it should all go sooooo easily

Now THERE's a mage who needs more spellhit. I've got a set of gear cobbled togeather out of heroic blues and +stamina greens, gives me 15000 hp buffed and capped spellhit.

I have like NO spell damage and no MANA but my job is done once Krosh is dead, anyways. ;) Evocate, pew pew pathetically just to keep myself entertained, then put on some real clothes.

Heh, I lived in Tokyo at the time of the Kobe earthquake in 1994 (I was a kid at the time). Of course, we didn't feel anything from that, but I do remember experiencing my first ever earthquake... probably the strongest out of all the ones I was there for... the whole school building shook violently a few times and then everything was back to normal.

The newspapers went ballistic when we had a mild tremor down in Australia :/
