We have another debate caused by a new resto druid to the guild and all the druids musing on the spec he is rather evangelical about. Basically, the ever popular Dreamstate spec
(laid out here - or variations on the theme):
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=0xcbuickrhZZxVcxcq0o
Now, my opinion on this is “hybrid” or “healer who wants to be able to solo grind without too much pain” which is fair enough (though I have to admit to be something of a purist on talent trees). I’m happy to put them in this box and take him on raids, though maybe I’d give him the easier healing targets than a pure healer. But no, this spec is apparently the best thing since sliced bread and he will outheal all “pure” restos.
I call bullshit :). The last few talents he misses on the resto tree that he missed (Tree of Life, Empowered Rejuvenation, Living Spirit etc) are amazing healing talents. We’re talking massively increased healing, cheaper healing spells and an aura that helps the whole raid heal. They make for incredible healing
His counter: “I have vast mana regen.” Granted. With Dreamstate and Intensity the mana regen of this spec is awe inspiring. And pointless. C’mon, when was the last time a healing DRUID went oom? Even Holy Paladins envy the endurance of a Resto druid, I know my resto shaman does. Intensity, instant cast hots (lots of non-casting times) huge spirit and all spells costing 20% less - oh and innervate to play with? Yeah, I think the Dreamstate spec is the ultimate trying to fix what isn’t broken
Aaaaand a rant against the new guildie who got kicked after 2 weeks and then asked why
Why?
Well for 2 weeks you did precious little except whine about not getting to raid. Yet in alllll that time you never ONCE signed your name under any of the raids listed on the forum. EVER. You whined about not being able to raid but made NO attempt to raid. When we posted in guild chat “need one more healer for Karazhan/Gruul/SSC” you didn’t once answer.
When you finally DID deign to sign up for Gruul’s (because the Druid CL gave you a slap down for whining) you spent the WHOLE raid spamming us with “GOGOGOGOGO!!” and “PULLLL PULLL!” Look, we’re here to kill the bosses too. We’re not here on a sight seeing tour to see the pretty pretty ogres. We’re not going to tag Gruul and release him into the wild so we can observe Gronn in their natural habitat. If we’re not pulling there’s a REASON (like the fact we didn’t have GoW buffed - HINT?! Oh and not bringing regeants on a raid? Yeah, the bear will eat you now). You kept doing this DESPITE being asked 3 times not to by the Raid leader (and Guild leader) and twice by the druid CL. AND once by the Shaman CL (I was pissed off, my apologies to my Druid counterpart for messing with her treehuggers)
When we kill a boss in a raid we have one request. Please keep vent silent and raid chat clear so we can clearly see who actually needs an item. We link the item. Needers type “NEED.” Simple, yes? So WHY did you feel the need to spam Raid chat CONSTANTLY? so we had to relink and item 5 times? I thought you were in a hurry?
And then you treated us to 10 mins bitching about our loot rules (sorry, this is your first ever raid with the guild - the guild you have been in for 2 weeks, and you want equal priority with people the dedicated raiders? Yeah, that’ll happen).
We finished Gruul and, because it’s a short raid, we have a Karazhan scheduled afterwards (again with signups). Early Karazhan means more Karazhans, so it’s all good. New druid has signed up and has actually said “Let’s head to Kara” before we even dished out the loot from Gruul himself. Still, I know a lot of people sign up for a raid then don’t want to after having just done Gruul and I don’t blame them so I whisper the sign ups seeing if they still wanted to go. Some didn’t. Some did and told me so so i got replacements. You? Said nothing. I gathered more people, throwing you a whisper every second person because, hey, I need to know if I can give your spot away. Then we are nine, i have 4 people wanting to go and you’re still silent. So I send you another whisper and get... “X has you on Ignore.”
You did NOT just put one of the guild officers on ignore? Right? Tell me you didn’t? Because, y’know that’s several kinds of stupid. So the guild leader pointedly makes it know how NOT a good idea this is and asks if he wants to come to kara. His answer? “That raid’s full of alts, I don’t want a wipefest.”
Right, let’s break down the wrongness here.
1) The only thing you needed to say was “no thanks.” Hey, say that to my first whisper and we’d have been fine.
2) We have guild raids. You don’t have raids with select guildies you want to raid with. You wouldn’t want us to have that rule anyway - because the number of people wanting to raid with you right now? Dropping REAL fast.
3) Don’t assume your guildies are crap, please. Especially if you haven’t examined their gear or seen them raid. The Druid who just maintanked Gruul? Was an alt.
And then the icing on the cake? We have one very strict guild rule. DO NOT PUG TBC RAIDS. Karazhan or above? No pugging. Join the guild runs. You pug? You can’t raid with the guild. You’re basically opting out of guild activity. Why even be in the guild? You know this rule. We all know this rule. It’s spammed on the forum, recruitment, everywhere.
So what do you do after sooooo politely refusing our Karazhan raid? You PUG Karazhan.
That is an ultimate “bitch you did not?!” And Officer chat resounded with the word “kick.” The only reason you didn’t get kicked sooner was because we were fighting over who got to do it.
Then you ask me WHY you were kicked? Really, why didn’t you just /gquit and save us all time?

Date: 2008-02-15 01:45 am (UTC)PUG = Pick-up-group. I.e. rather than going with guild mates you look for random people instead or join another guild's raid. So i may stand around in a city and yell "Looking for 4 people to go to X instance" and invite anyone who asks
(no subject)
Date: 2008-02-15 01:53 am (UTC)So, uh, why *shouldn't* you PUG the raids? I mean, if I'm on at a specific time and there aren't enough guildies around to do a run, why SHOULDN'T I hook up with someone else who wants to do it? Or if the raid takes 9 people and there are 9 guildies going, why shouldn't the 4 more guildies leftover go looking for 5 non-guild people?
I can see how it would be a serious pain in the ass if they're inviting people into the guild raid group instead of guild people, but I really can't imagine why choosing to go on a raid with some other people who aren't in the same guild would be cause for banning, when you're not screwing up the guild's raid by doing it and/or the guild doesn't want to/can't do that raid right now.
Am I missing something?

Date: 2008-02-15 01:47 am (UTC)If you're PUGging something, you're doing it with a group of people you don't necessarily know instead of with people you do know (namely, your guild).
TBC= The Burning Crusade, which is the first expansion for WoW. The expansion introduced a lot of content for levels 60-70.

Date: 2008-02-15 01:47 am (UTC)WoW original went up to lv 60 and had instances, raids etc.
Then the expansion, Burning Crusade came out, which increased the level cap to 70 and has its own raids, instances, quests etc.
There is no real benefit for people to do the lv 60 raids (pre-tbc) any more and the guild does not organise them - but if people still want to go for fun we don't mind them Pugging them. We don't go there and have no wish to - but we won't stop anyone.
The lv 70 raids we DO go to and do expect people to take guild runs
