There are rumours flying round the office now...

One of our partners may have been acting "inappropriately"

This could cover everything from wearing a really tasteless ties to axe murdering his clients

This is damn vague, but it is OMINOUS.

You can tell by the tone of voice and how the Hounds are whimpering.

This could be bad

very bad

*mental breakdown*

I'm hoping you're not a partner, given the recent cases of people being fired for blogging....

(well, it would be nice in general if you were a partner, but not so good right now!)

iirc, blogging still comes under freedom of speach. As long as he hasn't been posting specific details (like client names) he should be ok. I've yet to hear of a UK company firing someone for blogging (although US companies is another story)

doing a quick search, I did find two examples where it happened, but one of them specifically named their employer, Waterstones, and was fired for "bringing the company into disrepute". The other uploaded a photo of herself on the blog, which her employers said made her, and thus them, identifiable, and made references in it to sick days she'd pulled to go out with boyfriends and using company time to blog (although this last one wasn't seen as too serious, many employees read books during quiet periods).

In other words, one was using the blog to discredit his company, the other posted evidence of her own breaches in company policy. Both made either themselves or their employer identifiable and the second one is actually going to court over it with apparently quite a good case.

Sparky's done neither, he hasn't mentioned his firm or his clients and hasn't provided proof of who he is, and as such there isn't really any grounds for trouble over this. Hell, we don't even know for definate that these are real events or just a different type of story he writes (GMDave would be an example of someone doing just this)

He was identifiable and he identified his company - and he made his company look bad.

I'm safe *grin*

UK Bloggers fired

I'm afraid they have been - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/4167629.stm

And yes, thankfully Sparky's been very careful to carefully only refer to people as Mad Clients and Haddocks! (although I'd keep a watchful eye on Mad Secretary if I was him...)

Nah, too young to be a partner. Junior associate :)

Nah, nothing i've done is fireable (maybe them telling me to stop) because my identity and the identity of my firm is not available here. i can't be said to bringing the profession into disrepute or the firm into disrepute because of that

Fellow where I work was cheating on his wife with an employee. Had a baby with her and had pictures posted of the child in public.

The company flew him to headquarters, fired him and posted off duty police at the local company.

The thing is once he was gone there was no one to stand against the main corprate from gutting the business.

That's just... DUMB

But, to be honest, I'd be fairly of an opinion that his affairs (unless he's shagging on company time( are not the company's business

Ah, perhaps they were looking for an excuse

I think he was thwarting a faction from gutting that particular part of the company. Hughes bought Naval Avionics and inherited the pUnion with it.
Then Raytheon and Hughes merged, then diverged with Raytheon getting all the defense stuff and Hughes keeping the satellites.

There were people that a) hated the pUnion and b)hated that work wasn't going to their facility. I can understand the union part but intracompany sabotage is a sickness.

I'm right there with you.

The big boss' job has been on Hotjobs, and the ad had been pulled. I don't know what's going on, and I don't know who knows. I've kept it from my journal because I don't know who reads it.

The general manager we have now is the first decent one we have ever had. The thought of who might replace her is a bit nerve-wracking.

And the managerial politics have been interesting for a while. The two managers who have been my biggest supporters are the least-liked in the bunch, and they don't always get along.
