Where did Sandi Thom suddenly appear from? And where has she been hiding?

It's rare for me to even like anything that hits no. 1 in this era of pop idol, but her I Wish I was a Punk Rocker (With Flowers In My Hair) is incredible.

I had a similar reaction, especially when I actually listened to the lyrics. She'll go far :)

I hope so. I didn't hear the lyrics first time round, i was just stunned that someone can sing that will without any music. It shows TALENT that someone can sing without instruments and still sound good.

But the lyrics are incredible. Very deep and very applicable for our generation, I think dad finally understands what I mean when I talk about apathy when he heard it. When he was young and political there was a sense you could actually get something done, that someone was listening.

Was just wonderin' the same thing. It hit #1 in UK? I know they constantly play it on Virgin Radio and I was baffled for not having any idea who this woman/girl was.
Things like that... I realize how out I am. *flailz*

It's at no.1 right now. But she really did come out of nowhere, didn't she?

What surprises me is I heard on the radio that she started up singing in clubs. Then she decided to sing on web cams at home and she just took off, incredibly successful and self-made.

generally i don't mind being out since it's all pop idoly :)

EXACTLY! No-one had EVER heard of her, our minds were being slowly numbed by endless pop-idol then BANG! This woman comes out of nowhere and straight to no.1.

No record label. She produced it out of her garage.

I love her - or at least this song. I liked it when I first heard it. But the more I listened to it the more I loved it. She has virtually NO accompaniment throughout. Some drums, that's it. I think that';s a sign of true talent that a singer can manage that and sound good.

It's a little anglo-centric but it's still good. I'll email you the track to klgaffney@livejournal.com

She rocks like a rocking thing with extra rockiness. She has a great voice and it's a great song and you never hear people sing without music who are that good.

I like the anglo, to me it makes her more personal :)

It's been stuck in my head for 3 days now - and for the first time ever it's not annoying me.
