Happy whatever-festival-of-choice to all. I am currently enjoying suffering on Detox Day

I suppose in a way this counts as a family tradition but it just kind of happens. Before Christmas (during my Yule celebrations) the family spend their time Visiting which, as mentioned, involve consuming hideous amounts of food an alcohol. Vomitarians, in old Roman fashion, may be necessary.

My paganness approves - this is the time for a feast. A feast in midwinter. A exuberant, and yes, WASTEFUL consumption of resources for pure voluptuous pleasure in a time when we should be hording and saving for the bleak winter nights. It reminds you of the vibrancy of life, that we do not do things just to survive and that living is so much greater than existance. In a time when (traditionally anyway) life was all about surviving until the Sun starts coming back and hanging around a little longer, we do something that is purely about the joy of life. We defy hardship and want and misery praise the bounty we are offered and the joy that can be claimed. The night may be cold and dark and tomorrow we may be miserable or suffering or dead - but here and now we are alive and we're going to wring every ounce of joy from that precious wonderous state.

Still, the lead up to the 25th is one long long debauched feast. The 25th itself involves eating and drinking more than any sane person every should - along with teh family.

Which leads us to Detox day! Because after a little more than a week of eating and drinking to RIDICULOUS excess you will feel MANKY. Salads and spring water, gentle exercise and lots of rest and extreme grumpinesss. Blaaargle. All things in balance I guess - take your pleasure and joys but pay the price for them.

And remember that we'll all feel a little better tomorrow... blaaargle
