Beware in game WoW scam!

A scam has just rocked through several guilds on our server and I know at least on major guild has been stung by it (we beat it of because we rock so much :))

A lv 1 character will contact one of the officers in the guild and say "Hi, it's (Insert name of another officer who is offline)'s new alt. Can you invite me please?" Upon getting an invite they will then ask to be promoted to officer/officer alt (whatever rank your guild has) so they can read Officer chat (sounds reasonable).

At which point they will run to the guild bank and remove as many mats as they're can and transfer them to another characterbefore logging off and deleting the character. We got away with it because the officers all know each other, talk on vent constantly and geekily debate anything. We played with the skammer so we could get lots of amusing screenies saying things like "Wow! You're back from your South Pole Exhibition already?!" and watch them ad-lib answers until they gave up and left us alone.

So word of warning - either make sure mains confirm the identity of alts looking for invites or restrict bank access
