After much deliberation I have decided on the most awkward way of getting rid of the jitters around journal.

Cross posting.

I'm planning on opening journals at insanejournal and greatestjournal and, frankly, cross posting there. The 3 journals will be clones of each other, the only difference between them the comments received, you read one you read them all :)

But this way if any of them (since they all seem to have the same TOS, though perhaps not the same random applications of such) suddenly decide to burn my journal down in a rain of fundies then the other 2 will be saved.

Unless of course all three conspire to destroy me *shifty suspicious look* in which case I will be in the basement with a fuckload of cutlery and enough tinned goods and bottled water to last me a lifetime muttering "they're out to get me precious, yessss" until the world ends or Beloved forces me out... or there's something important like a pizza delivery.

I say again, nothing will appear at either of these journals that doesn't appear here except possibly comments, this is just a sop to my paranoia. I want to make it clear that I have NO intention of leaving Livejournal - not at all. I will post here until I am old and grey and my fingers are so crippled by arthritis I can't type and my slave monkey won't type for me either - or unless LJ decides otherwise.

So again I am not leaving livejournal The above 2 are COPIES of this journal, not replacements of it.

LJ-backup and restore help

I have been using lj backup to ensure everything I post gets stored in my hard drive (me? Paranoid? Course not!)

I have 2 problems with this - 1st I can download the posts but not the comments, for some reason it tells me it can't log in and suggests I check the user name and password (if they DIDN'T have the right username and password, how, pray tell, did they download the posts including Flocked? Grrr.)

This wouldn't necessarily be a problem, but any attempt to use webrestore (which I assume is the programme to get your journal back ON the internet if it gets broken) keeps moaning that I haven't downloaded comments.


So... halp! How do i download everything with these wretched tools and how do I restore them all to netty netty goodness?

Testing everything

Ok, after much journal fiddling I have now uploaded my entrei journal onto Greatestjournal and insane journal so, except for comments, they are clone journals.

Sparkies everywhere! MUAHAHA!

I now feel safe with a truly ridiculous amount of paranoid backups.

I am now using semagic to see if I can multiple post at once, which will make life easier

Then all i've got to do is update the memories on the others

bladespark has a good link that sums up all that is wrong with LJ's latest kerfuffle - not freeom of speech (doesn't apply) not even obscenity laws or rules of posting or terms of service per se..

No, it's HORRENDOUS customer service - to leave us with so little in the way of guidelines and to behave the way they did is just classic bad service - made all the more appalling but the previous event.

See, LJ staff have decided to say bugger all about this to LJ users (we may get a note after they've done a few press releases - y'know, the kind of mistake they said they weren't going to make again). However, one of the LJ staff, Burr86 decided it would be SO much better to go to a community (EFW) and MOCK the people complaining.

Yes, just picture this for a moment - you ring a company with an angry complaint, maybe many of you do, rather than talk to you they decide to put you on speaker phone with several of their friends and start making fun of you? Oh, added bonus for implying the complaints are paedophiles too. Sounds like a great plan for call centres doesn't it?

Sure, the community itself is for snark and I have no problem with the community or their criticism and mocking - but for Lj staff to do this? Seriously, you couldn't ask for a better definition of unprofessionalism. It's like a perfect plan to make a PR disaster worse and it shows utter contempt from LJ towards its users
