Oh dear gods, no!
May. 17th, 2004 10:51 pmThere is good news.
My computer is fixed. I dragged in a friend and daemon is fixed. Thank you to Kami for lending daemonic wizards at Zaubercorb to recurse my machine!
Now the bad news. Oh gods the bad news. Allow me to recount a conversation.
Friend: All fixed.
Me: Thank you, you're a life saver.
Friend: I even put some new stuff in - like Office how can you not have office?!
Me: Thanks, I never use it, don't really know why.
Friend: Yeah, you use Works? Can't believe there are people who still use works. Anyway, I cleared out all of Works and replaced it with Office.
Me: Oh.. *thinking of reinstalling Works later* thanks
Friend: It took me ages, how many Works files do you have?
Me: Files? Loads.
Friends: Well, that's all cleared and you can use office now *beams with joy and leaves while I'm still digesting this*
Me: *checks computer is happy with everything returned. Opens fic folders*
{the following is censored for public safety, morality and just general ickiness, because it's sad seeing a grown man reduced so}
It's gone. All my fic is gone. The full archive. The world building. The history. The unwritten. The furture plans. The maps, the profiles, the random notes on weird little text files that were used as reminders. The characters lists.
My last hopes - uncertain backups and restores. This is so not good. And I can't get angry with friend, really, he DID fix the comp...
