Battling eternally against people who are against homosexual unions (gods, keep the name marriage as 'sacred' if you must - afterall, homosexuals who love each other are definitely going to destroy an institution which brought us 'who wants to marry a millionare?' and Britney's whimsical journey) has made me think that we're just not talking the same language. We seem to interpret things very differently.
Namely - value of 'sources'
Me: *puts forward reasoning why gays should be allowed unions*
Homophobic bigot: No, gays don't love each other!
Me: Yes we do.
HB: No they don't - look *pastes links to extremist bias websight* What's your source for homosexuals loving each other?
Me: Errr, me? A homosexual in love.
HB: HAH! See you have nothing to back up your claims!
Now let's get this clear. On the one hand we have a homosexual talking about the homosexual mindset. On the other we have a group of people who may have never even knowingly spoken to a homosexual - but because they can make a website and give themselves a group name (like 'Families for Homophobia' or 'Traditional Values for Violent Witch Hunts.' Or 'Religious Zealots out for a Theocratic Police State') their words carry more weight?
It's like the whole 'choice issue'. They're asking me for the 'gay gene' or some such - excuse me, I KNOW I didn't chose this because, IT IS MY HEAD, MY MIND. I KNOW I NEVER MADE THIS CHOICE. Why do I need a website made by straight people to back this up? Why does a straight guy know my thoughts feelings and emotions better than I do? (Plus I always reply - 'why no I never chose to be homosexual. Did you chose to be heterosexual?')
