I am extremely happy and utterly tunned by this turn of events. I'll be honest, I never thought it would end this well.

The British sailors are being released. No-one had to die, no war was declared, there was no bombing, no extreme sanctions, few childish insults, no-one had to back down or bend their stiff pride and diplomatic relations with Iran - and/or the Middle East in general have remained on relatively good footing - at least, as well as they used to be.

All in all, it looks like the political powers that be actually acted like sane, polite, sensible grown ups. Excuse me while I check the skies for aerial pigs or the four horsemen because this is unprecedented.

My utmost congratultions and applause to the British government and diplomatic corps. I rarely have a good thing to say about Blair and his crew, but they did good.

I have to wonder if the fact that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi went to the Middle East DESPITE the resident of the White House "forbidding" her to do so had anything to do with it?

If nothing else, it proved that the entire government is NOT under Junior's control/thumb

and I'm SO SO SO glad that they *were* released before it was dragged out much longer. its a good thing they weren't waiting for anything from the Shrub

I don't know if she were involved, but I do appreciate that she stopped a motion by the American congress to get involved in the whole affair

And it is always good for her to exert exactly where his authority lies

Well, aren't you Brits known for strong and quiet behind-closed-doors negotiating? I have read all the Alistair Maclean and John Le Carre novels. ;)

No, seriously, the correct firmness was shown and the whole thing turned into a showmanship contest after it was made quite clear that the UK would not just lie there and take it. Sometimes a Falklands reminder -is- in order. :)

I have to disagree with this, but only because she's a Demopublican. Or is it a Republocrat? I forget - let's just call them all corrupt politicians and engage an emperor. :)

His Supreme and Excellent Majesty King Sparky agrees most assuredly with this proposal.

All teh stupids would be gone and replaced with teh sillies, which are not nearly as dangerous and are far more amusing.

Oh yes, quite behind the doors pressure is always what we've done best - we just don't seem to be doing it nearly as much any more. We've lost our subtltly. Time to bring it back methinks.

It was a dispaly of showmanship but at the same time it kept options open, we were firm but allowed the Iranians a chance to save face - if you back someone in a corner you reduce the options
