Grrrrr.... Wow Rant
Mar. 13th, 2007 11:22 amIlath flexed his claws, eyes fixed on the approaching enemies. In fury he roared at them, drawing them to him as his great paws smashed them to the floor. A part of his mind was always on his companions; he felt his flesh mend as holy Cantra at his back filled him with a healing light. His sister, Alih's feathers fluttered in arcane winds as she called the power of the stars against their foes. To his right he could feel the armoured presence of Lifoot, the Paladin's sword sweeping down the enemy. Confidence burned within him, nothing could stop them this day.
"Aid me!" A scream came behind him. Desperately the druid turned, charging at the foe who had ran past to the priest, alsmot before the echoes of his growl had died he rushed back across the chamber to desperately distract the enemy that Alih was only just fending off. He gasped in horror, Qarg, the Hunter, has died! How had this happened so suddenly? Frantically he turned back to Cantra who was valiantly healing him even as she cowered behind a shield. He heard Lifoot fall behind him even as Cantra's shield failed. Alih desperately tried to recall Cantra from death's embrace, but it was too late. The battle was lost.
Qarg got up again, blinking in confusion. "Elune have mercy, what happened?"

Dear Hunter. You are lv 67 and a DPS class. I thought ALL DPS classes knew that there were times when you DO NOT USE AOE IN INSTANCES! Our Mages hesitate to use flamestrike (and they HAVE crowd control abilities). You don't see our guild warlocks raining fire down on all their foes. Tanks have a VERY LIMITED supply of AoE taunt. Our Oomkin aren't calling hurricanes on all and sundry. In a difficult instance you attack the TANK'S TARGET. this is simple DPS discipline. I then hold that one on me and pick any who sneak round the edges to hit the healer and bring them back. STOP USING BLOODY MULTI-SHOT ALL THE BLOODY TIME! And if you DO agro have the bloody instance because you have AoEd despite the tank having told you CONSTANTLY not to - do not then feign death so all the mobs you've agroed go to play with the damn healer!
Level 70s shouldn't have to deal with noobs. Some DPS folk seem to think they can just lay about at random. It doesn't matter how high your damn damage meters say you are, if you're messing with the agro you're more trouble than you're worth.

Date: 2007-03-13 09:41 pm (UTC)I hate it when they bitch that they have agro - DPS classes tend to think everything is so very simple and they obsess about damage. A good DPS not only does damage but has discipline. I remember my lv 60 mage was careful NOT to use some spells too often because they caused so much agro. I don't expect that because I think a tank SHOULD be able to hold everything on one mob. But AoE? Nothing we can do. EVER.
Warrior v. Druid
Date: 2007-03-14 01:30 pm (UTC)But yeah, AoE will get mages/hunters aggro like mad.
As a freshly 61 Enhancement Shaman...
Date: 2007-03-14 06:10 pm (UTC)Assuming, that is, that the DPS can do *THEIR* job to avoid excessive aggro. I'm lucky in that I gravitate towards classes that can take a few beats - shamans in mail armor and Rogues with all that dodging - and thus I tend to off-tank mobs. But I still don't pull out Chain Lightning or Blade Flurry willy-nilly, unless I'm *damn* sure my tank has those mobs firmly pissed off...
And as I'm discovering, L70 is no guarantee that the player will be at all skilled... I ran Hellfire Ramparts with a L70 Rogue yesterday. He didn't know Poisons. Not 'didn't know which poisons were best to use'; he'd simply skipped learning how to use them. I also discovered a L68 Paladin without Blessing of Salvation, and I swear if I have to ask one more Druid for Mark of the Wild at the beginning of an instance I'll frigging scream.
This has become my own little rant, and probably belongs in my own journal. Sorry!

Re: As a freshly 61 Enhancement Shaman...
Date: 2007-03-15 12:05 am (UTC)People play DPS and have NO clue how to do it. They think it is so easy to just throw damage - you need DISCPLINE TO BE DPS! You need to know at very least not to AoE or not to hit things the tank isn't hitting - hell, advanced and GOOD DPS know when to hold back, for example, when their spells have crit 3 times in a row
And do you know what hacks me off? DPS pulling! I even see tanks ASKING others to pull (sheep pull? silence pull? NO!) NO NO NO NO NO! Let me ESTABLISH agro, don't make me waste a taunt to drag agro back.
And players who don't have a clue? I'm amazed how many have made it to lv 70. I have a paladin who STILL gives me Blessing of wisdom all the damn time - in BEAR FORM! People who don't know one curse from the other and just randomly spoam abilities. I really do not get it.
Re: Warrior v. Druid
Date: 2007-03-15 01:58 am (UTC)Warriors are much tougher but druids are flexible and have other nifty skills so it all balances
I hate all kind of AoE in instances unless it is crowd control or against non-elites. I thought all DPS would learn that lesson by 70
