I will always be happy with this moment as I think it was the best reaction I have ever got from my players

To understand this one you need to know the back story. Some time ago we played a Dark Ages chronicle of Vampire. This was set in the 7th century and by the end of the game, after many many many sessions, it ended in the 12th century.

Needless to say, by the end of this rather epic chronicle the players were EXCEEDINGLY powerful. they had connections and allies at the highest level, had merrily slaughtered werewolves, faeries, mages and vampires of all stripes. They had spent time in Horizon, had plumbed Umbral realms, had rescued Mithras, Prince of London from an assassination attempt and tried to knock of Voivode Rustovitch just before they took part in the destruction of Constantinople. The chronicle ended because a) running a chronicle with 5 6th generation, 550 year old vampires was VERY tiring and b) the characters had all started to wander down their own paths anyway (after all, since when do 5 century old vampires stay in coteries?)

Of note was the party’s Malkavian, known only as the Jester. He started out very insane and his mind only became more cracked through the chronicle as he became ever more cryptic (some sessions refusing to communicate except by tambourine. But when a 500 year old Malkavian decides to communicate by tambourine? You let him) and extreme (and, uh, evil) and ever more powerful (Dementation 7? Ouch. REALLY OUCH. Dementation, Dark Thaumaturgy and Chimesty backed up with a hefty amount of Dominate? Really really really scary. In his way he was the most dangerous of them all). In particular, one of his pet insanities was a donkey. He obsessed over this donkey and treated it as a god.

Poor little donkey.

Sid (as the donkey become known. I don’t know why), over the course of the chronical was daemonically possessed. He was possessed by bane spirits. He was ghouled. He was fleshcrafted. He was enhanced by magic and cursed by magic by mages of 4 traditions, werewolves, faerie (of all 4 courts) Tremere, Cappadocians, Baali, Giovanni and Koldun and he only ever consumed bane tainted grass (at one point the Jester started a farm of donkeys all with bane tainted grass...) Sid was not a normal donkey. The wings, horns, claws and extra limbs indicated that.

There is the background:

Fastforward to the future. New chronicle. New modern nights party. Confident neonates bordering on Ancilla (about 75 years dead). Getting a little cocky. Party investigating disappearing Malkavians and are SURE sure sure they are on the right track

The enter the village full of the bizarre pod people, confused by the fixed grin everyone sports. After clever investigation they find their way into the tunnels under this odd looking Connecticut village. Thwarting detection they emerge into a vast cavern.

Something moves in the darkness.... the party tenses, readying weapons and powers. They have defeated the Sabbat Bishop Jorge el Torro and his priest, the demented Anatasz, can this be any worse? Then it comes into the light - 19feet tall and sprouting so many tentacles and horns and spines it is nearly impossible to see...

Then a voice from the darkness laughs “down, Sid. I want to talk to our guests first...” *jingle jingle*

I wish I had had a camera for their faces. Really I do. I have never seen players go pale before :)

And a message of warning to all PCs - create awkward players and I can use them against you.
