Computer help?
Oct. 31st, 2006 11:46 amAh, that reminds me: Houston, we have a problem.
Daemon, despite being generally well behaved *touch wood* to a truly shocking degree, has decided that there are no blank cds in its nifty cd burner. Even when I put blank CDs in there for the purpose of writing. It still read data and music CDs just fine, but put in a blank CD and nope, nothing there apparently. This is vexing
What is further vexing is that if I do not fix it myself, I will have to appeal to beloved for help.
The Sparky does not admit ignorance. Ever. This is a rule.
It will also be further confirmation of his spurious and malicious implication that my computer is the spawn of all evil and that no-one should use it without a Haz Mat suit and a crucifix. He will further use this as evidence that I am no more fit to manage a computer than Enoch Powel is to manage a racial awareness meeting or Blair is to run a country.
This cannot be allowed! I muuuust figure out how to fix the poor comp or face ever lasting shame

(He might be right about your computer though :) Maybe you should consider buying a Mac!)

Date: 2006-10-31 03:04 pm (UTC)It shows *no CD in the drive at all* for blanks? From Windows, as well as from your burning program? What if you go to a command prompt and go to the drive letter directly? And does it read *burned* data and music CDs, or just original CDs?
As for solutions: Reboot, remove the burner through Device Manager and reboot again to reinstall it, download new drivers (if any) from the manufacturer and install those, and, if all is still failing, call it a hardware problem and take it to a tech. If it's under warrantee, replacing it's an idea.

Date: 2006-11-01 12:37 pm (UTC)That's right, says there's nohing there in all programmes. It READS CDs which HAVE been burned, just not the blank ones
Hmmm,. hardware problem is looking likely. I'm out of gurantee though. Time to go shopping!
