And Blizzard - about this new Patch?
Aug. 24th, 2006 10:29 pmDROP DEAD OF SOME HORRIBLE WASTING DISEASE!
Has there ever BEEN a more buggy piece of crap released since Windows 95?
Yeah I love the amalgamated battlegrounds - saves on queues getting in
But it takes me 20mins for the damn battlemaster to even RECOGNISE me. Then after I accept to go in they won't let me (or make we wait longer than EVER I was queued before) Then i get STUCK in the BG for an hour after it has finished. Nice. Real Nice.
Oh and while we're at it - what madness possessed you to make Silithus and Eastern Plaguelands PVP zones?! Giant battlegrounds you get stuck in (well no, because you get less honour, less rep and a WHOLE lot more agro than you do in a BG). I can't imagine what it's like on the PVP servers - these areas are annoying enough without being ganked endlessly by some Horde trying to claim these bloody useless towers (a feat that appears to be impossible by the way)
And while we're at it - the CANON of having the alliance (or the Horde) try to claim EITHER territory is LUDICROUS
Even aside from the SHEER STUPIDITY OF IT, what POSSIBLE sense does it make for the canon? C'mon we're on an RP server so we expect the plot to make sense. Why is the alliance trying to claim EP of all places?!
A forward point against the Horde? WHY? The northern most alliance territory is Southshore! Barricade Alterac or Arathi (you know, those nice STRATEGICALLY DEFENSIBLE areas with the IDEAL defensible terrain) you have ongoing wars there ANYWAY.
A way to hit the Horde from a different angle? Nice, except Trisfal is ALREADY barricaded to the east to keep out the Scourge, so that translates to attacking the Horde at their strongest point.
Resources in EP? Well, assume for a minute there are vast resources there - it doesn't matter because all caravans have to come THROUGH the Western Plaguelands - including Andorhal. Same goes if you want to muster an army against the Horde - you have to go through the WP to resupply and maintain the fortifications and forces in EP - madness. If you wanted to make ANY attempt to claim EP - whether for Naxxarramas or killing the Scourge or for whatever resources are there you MUST take WP first (this also makes more sense if you want a bulwark against the Horde).
And Silithus? That sandy dump with the evil wildlife, swarming with Silithid and infested with the Twilight Hammer. Why would ANYONE want to take that?
Gah the whole things just DOES NOT FIT. From a writing point of view there is no real way to justify why the Alliance would send more forces (their OVERSTRETCHED forces) to these regions.

Date: 2006-08-25 12:43 am (UTC)Were the issues fixed by the latest hotfix btw?
I dunno, complaining about breaking with canon in an MMO is kind of pointless. If what they're doing makes the experience better for the majority of players, I'm sure Metzen can craft a cunning, warped explanation that will bandaid the gaping rift in canon and I won't complain. For a single player game, sure, stick to canon like glue, and it won't fuck up the game significantly.

Date: 2006-08-25 01:20 am (UTC)Sadly it's not what me & husband want from an MMO... (I've sat in a 'discussion' between my ex & my husband about the combat systems... It went on for a while...)
(And yes, my ex & husband get on very nicely, thank you. Tho' why the hell they're both domestic guys, good at cooking with long nails... Erm...)

Date: 2006-08-25 01:23 am (UTC)Expecting a completely logical world that adheres to RPG canon from a hack and slash lightweight game like WoW is going to result in disappointment surely :D
Alternately, Guild Wars, which manages to solve some of the problems in very different ways.

Date: 2006-08-25 09:32 am (UTC)So far no fixes, just a very annoyed Sparky
What bugs me is that Warcraft (the full series) has a great canon - great, in depth story. And this new innovation for the BGS is just... not fitting. And there's no real need for it either

Date: 2006-08-25 12:22 pm (UTC)And I'm on a regular PvE server.
I don't even want to get into the raid changes.

Date: 2006-08-25 08:24 pm (UTC)Folks on Thorium Brotherhood took one look at the world PVP, said 'this seems dumb, fuck it', and went into Battlegrounds.
I've gotten stuck exiting a BG once, but then I'd had that happen before the patch too - I logged out, logged in an alt, ran around for 10m playing with auctions, and was able to switch back.
I've learned more about PvP in the last 2 days than in the previous four months. :P

Date: 2006-08-29 07:36 am (UTC)Seems like they're trying to make world PvP a larger part of the game (which I approve of, though their current effort is still pretty woeful).
Will be interesting to see what world PvP stuff emerges from the expansion!

Date: 2006-08-29 01:11 pm (UTC)That being said the buffs you get for these world PVP aren't half bad

Date: 2006-08-29 01:11 pm (UTC)I didn't notice any raid changes...

Date: 2006-08-29 01:12 pm (UTC)getting stuck leaving BGs seems to have stopped at last (thankfully) I couldn't even log out before.

Date: 2006-09-04 08:07 am (UTC)There must be some reason to play other than sheer joy at the new content (heh), maybe you can get rep for an otherwise tricky faction or something? e.g. I'd rather do that than AQ to get Cenarion Hold rep, if that's the way it works.
