A message that has to be shared

For gay people everywhere, because everyone deserves the happiness and security I have

Pass the word.

"Fidelity": Don't Divorce... from Courage Campaign on Vimeo.

It's a powerful video and above all a strong message. Bigots - whether gays marry or not won't touch you. It won't change your lives one tiny iota. But these are real people and real lives and real families you are trying to destroy. For your cause, for your god, for your hate, you are trying to destroy people and their loved ones.

And the only word for that is evil.

This one got me teary-eyed at work. Still fighting the good fight. Thank you.

Further:

I was talking to [livejournal.com profile] blackcurrants about the "outrage paralysis" I sometimes get about things like this - the point where my ordinarily very calm, very logical brain, which can see all sides to an argument (even the abominable ones), which can follow the thought processes of the most desperate kind of bigoted asshole - just shuts down, and I'm left sitting here paralysed, going, "But how could you do that? How could you THINK that?"

me: "How... How do you even start? Where do you start from, to imagine that these people are a threat to you?"

[livejournal.com profile] blackcurrants: "That's exactly what you do - you imagine them as a threat to something vague that you want to identify with; like 'the family' or 'marriage'. And you then think, "I must protect this vague thing that I want to identity with, protect it from being more inclusive of other people!" "

That's when I realised my problem - I cannot (and good Gods my mother would go to Heaven for this alone if she had not committed a hundred other sanctified acts in her life!), I simply do not have the capacity, to look at those two dads and their beautiful little girl, and not see a "family". I can stare at it all I like, but it's clearly a fucking family, and the capacity does not exist in my brain to look at it, any more than I could look at a green square and think "red circle".

I can't look at that beautiful young lady sweeping her wife up in her arms, both in wedding dresses, and see anything other than "marriage". It's a marriage. It looks like a marriage, it smells like a marriage, it's a marriage. In conclusion: MARRIAGE, what is wrong with you people?!

I am very, very lucky. I was raised by a truly wonderful woman, and raised so well that my deepest subconscious instincts do not allow me to even achieve the starting-point that these people turn into their creeds of hate and fear and oppression. It is my fondest hope that in a few generations, that will be the norm; and that every healthy young man and woman will be able to look at that photograph and say "family" without a second thought.

Just have to say, I agree with you so hard right now, I don't have words. :)

I have the same feeling - I had the same feeling when the Pope decided that gay people were a threat on par with rainforest devastation and global warming. I try to follow the pathways but I just reach an end "NO, does not compute. No-one is that dumb"

I am not damaged enough, I am not crazed enough, I am not hateful enough to understand these people. I simply can't. I am too sane to ever get that level of crazy

And I am not so crazed that I can't see these beautiful images and see families and loved ones and be sad to my very soul that people want to tear this apart.

We're spreading the word and fighting the fight. It'll come right eventually
