There is no explanation for this shit

This is a declaration by the UN supporting worldwide DECRIMINALISATION of homosexuality

NOT supporting gay marriage

NOT forcing everyone to wear rainbows and have teh gay sex

This is a declaration to prevent gays being fined, imprisoned or executed for BEING GAY

OK? Because countries like, say, Iran have a nasty habit of executing us gay folk and most civilised people would rather they didn't ok?

In fact, to quote the statement:
"to take all the necessary measures, in particular legislative oradministrative, to ensure that sexual orientation or gender identitymay under no circumstances be the basis for criminal penalties, in particular executions, arrests or detention."

Wow, objectionable, isn't it?

SO WHY THE HELLS DID THE USA, ALONE OF ALL WESTERN NATIONS, NOT SIGN IT?!

"SO WHY THE HELLS DID THE USA, ALONE OF ALL WESTERN NATIONS, NOT SIGN IT?!"

Because Bush is a cowardly bigoted thug. End of story.

So true, and common sense has never been their strongpoint.

But this? Gah, it's just boggling. It's just pure spite

That may be a factor too, really. The current administration is on the way out and they know it. They might as well go ahead and be as petty and spiteful in every way as they can while it lasts, right?
