I know I know... waaaay too much delay

I'm working on it, I just got distracted by the arrival of teh new Merry Gentry book.

Wretched thing's lost me some money to the b/f though:

B/f: Reading porn again?
Me: It's NOT porn.
B/f: Yeah right, whatever. We know it's porn.
Me: It is not porn. It is a novel that just happens to have sex in it.
B/f: Yeah? Bet you a fiver someone gets naked before any plot comes along. In fact, I bet you another fiver that there's sex of some kind in the first 10 pages before any plot comes along. AND I bet another fiver that Merry gets a new sex partner before the end of the book.

Wretched book. I just lost £15. But it's not porn.

Yes, I cling to that. It's WRITTEN porn, not pictures. See? Better.

and tasteful, damnit! erotica, i love. vulgar, not so much.

mmm... it has something to do with how women and men are wired differently. men are much more visually oriented while women are auditory oriented with a a big emphasis on stuff going on in headspace. that's why written stuff works so much better for us. or, at least that's what i've always found true.

Tasteful - yes it sounds prudish, but you are right. There's a difference between erotica - because sex isn't wrong or shameful or something to hide - and full blown porn - because porn is born in the environment OF repression. Erotica is... well, a celebration of sex. An acceptance. An appreciation.

Porn is a desperate outlet for those trapped in the 'sex is wrong' mindset or society. Porn is wrapped in stifling robes of repression and shame - the dirty little secret, the mags hidden under the bed.

How to put it? Porn hides under the mattress. Erotica sits on the bookshelf.

(I'm not sure on the visual vs writing, since I'm a guy but see the appeal of both).
