Signed up for doctors Monday

Me? Going willing to the doctors! Good gods I must be ill!

Ok, I have a bad cold, maybe mild flu and its only been making me miserable for a few days - it's not nearly as bad as a year ago (that long?! ye gods how time flies).

Except of course a year ago I was ill because I have pneumonia. Yeah and it vaguely occurs to me that that means I'm going to have to be more paranoid about respiratory diseases. I'm not sure about pneumonia recurrence, but I do know it can damage your lungs which (presumably) either makes you more vulnerable to lung nasties or makes said lung nasties worse.

Damn it, i normally avoid doctors like the plague now I'm seeking one from paranoia? I must be growing up.

ETA This was promopted by me being sent home from work early today. Note SENT. The Most Senior of Partners has a thing about sick days - you WILL take them if you have something that is potentially contagious. He likes and trusts his staff and knows we (probably) won't abuse it (much) so he demands we take days off when we are sick and pays us generously for our sick days. His reasoning is that having someone spreading germs around his office is far more damaging than doing without them for a few days.

So upon seeing me walk in today, coughing and spluttering, he roared at me to leave the building "and not come back until you have rid yourself of that pestilence!" (yes he does talk like that. He's a very old lawyer, he's allowed). Roared is accurate since he refused to come within 10 feet of me.

My work may be crazy but I've got to love the people there. Even if they do steal my underground parking

...there is a particularly vicious one doing the rounds at the moment (not sure if it falls in the cold or flu category, mostly because I didn't have the presence of mind to take my temperature until the fever was nearly gone).

I woulnd't normally say it, but totally see the doctor. I can totally see the nasty hacking cough part doing more damage to your presumably-not-in-great-shape-right-now lungs...

I admire your Most Senior of Partners greatly, for I too am in the camp of "Stay home and keep your damn germs with you!"

"Paranoia" implies that you are irrationally worried about your respiratory health. Once you've had pneumonia there is nothing irrational about going to the doctor at the first sign of a cough. My ex-husband caught pneumonia a week after we got married, and proceeded to come down with it three more times over the next three years.

Yay for Most Senior of Partners, and yay for you using your fabulously well-groomed and atomic-powered intellect to actually look after your own welfare for a damn change!

Hope you are well soon, and the plague returneth not.

If all employers had the same philosophy, the winter cold and flu season would not be half as bad!

His reasoning is that having someone spreading germs around his office is far more damaging than doing without them for a few days.

My company is the same way - semi-generous sick days that you can either take by the hour (doctor's visits) or by the day... and you better stay out rather than infect everyone else.

Good luck with it being something easily curable and not overly medicated to get that way.

Roared... with a british accent, no less. Good god, you should record this shit.

Excellent decision making by Most Senior Partner, and by your good self. once you've done the pneumonia thing, it's only sane to take extra care of your lungs.

Aww! *hugs and muffins*

I hope you feel better soon, dear.
