I’m trying to cover other issues than the Catholic church scandal but every time I turn around there is more headmelting foolishness, stone cold callousness and frankly, just plain evil arising over and over again

The natural outrage people feel about the Catholic church covering up and enabling child rapists has disturbed the church. In fact, it’s so bad that Rev Raniero Cantalamessa, the Pope’s personal preacher has compared criticism of the pope to the history of violence suffered by the Jewish people.

*Incoherent hand waving at the screen* I just.. I… I mean… seriously… WHAT?! Is crack the new sacrament or something?! Why would you even say this? Why, especially given the Catholic church’s rather shameful inactivity during World War 2 AND the Pope’s personal history*** would you even THINK of comparing anger about child rape to the freaking HOLOCAUST!

What is this?! Has the Catholic church lost its mind? Are they really this disconnected from reality? How can anyone with even an ounce of intelligence say something so patently absurd?

After that, noted exorcist (no, really.) Rev Father Gabriele deciding that all this criticism is actually a plot by Satan seems quite minor. But you have to boggle at the idea here – covering up child rape is godly. Criticising those who protect paedophiles is the work of the devil.

Ok, y’know what Vatican? Y’know what you REALLY need to learn here? You. Are. Not. The. Victims. Here. Seriously – get over yourselves and buy a clue. You are the criminals, the evil doers, the sinners – you allowed child abuse and child rape to happen to what seems like thousands of children – CHILDREN, damn it. You covered it up, you protected the perpetrators, you let them do it again. You are not the victims. This is your fault. Not the gays, yours. No-one is attacking you. Not the pro-choicers or the people wanting women priests or the liberals or the poor damned VICTIMS or Satan or the damn Easter Bunny – no-one is victimising you. You are not being persecuted, you are not suffering from anything remotely like anti-Semitism, there is no holocaust, no conspiracy against you. In fact, you’re being treated a damn site more gentle than you deserve. This “poor persecuted me” actis not only pathetic – it’s offensive.

This is your fault, your doing. Take some damn responsibility because this defence has crossed the line from comic to pathetic and landed purely on sickening.

*** Not that I blame Benedict for being a member of the Hitler youth – he was a child in a time and place where there was little choice in the matter.
